The Carcasonne Woods is a thick forest which surrounds Carcasonne, crossing over and around Hawk's Freehold to the east, and pressed against the Southern Range to the south and southwest. The forest expands slowly westward every year by at least a few feet, and is filled with spirits and faeries.
 
The Anaithan Woods was sealed in 1005 AE by the Empress of Carcasonne, Saotome Kwaidan. Since that time, any who attempt to enter Carcasonne from the outside and who is not recognized as a Carcasonne Citizen does not survive the journey. The only exception are the Peace Keepers of the Shire Lands, who can take an Oath of the Jewel Maiden which allows them safe passage, or those with the blood of the faeries or kami in their veins.
