"You've got to know what you're capable of. As knights in training, you must feel your muscles. You must stick your resolve. You must be aware of your power, not only for the sake of your sword arm, but for the sake of those you defend!"

Character Statistics

Once known as Attributes, characters can be rated in four different categories. By default, all characters are assumed to be "average" in all things, but careful use of Plot Points can raise your statistics beyond the their default level and empower your character to excel in any of the four major areas.

Statistics create the core of your character, indicating natural talents and affinities without training. Generally speaking without spending any plot points you can choose one of the statistic to be a "Primary" statistic, and the expense of choosing a statistic to be "Tertiary". This would naturally give an advantage in one area while taking a disadvantage in another.

While no longer in use, some Nations used to give a bonus to a specific statistic simply by being from that area.

Mental

The Mental Attribute represents the character's ability to think and understand the world around them. The character's intelligence, memory, and cunning all derive from the character's Mental Statistic.

In the old system:

  • Health = Physical + Mental
  • Initiative = Physical + Mental - Size
  • Defense is the lower of Physical or Mental
  • Resistance is the lower of your Mental or Spiritual
  • Resolve is the lower of your Mental or Social'

Physical

A character's Physical Attribute represents the character's overall health, strength, and coordination. The character's ability to absorb damage, lift and carry things, and endure the physical strains of life are all derived from the character's Physical Statistic.

In the old system:

  • Health = Physical + Mental
  • Speed = Physical + Physical + Size
  • Initiative = Physical + Mental - Size
  • Defense is the lower of your Physical or Mental

Social

A character's Social Statistic represents the character's ability to interact with the world, their ability to communicate, and to gain the appropriate reaction from the communication. The character's force of personality is derived from the character's Social Statistic.

While primarily used to sway Non Player Characters (NPCs), Social can also help in an interaction with a Player Character (PC). However, no statistic can make up for actual interaction, and force of personality does not immediately make people agree with you. Supernatural Powers certainly can help push the envelope, however.

In the old system:

  • Essence = Social + Spiritual
  • Resolve is the lower of your Mental or Social

Spiritual

A character's Spiritual Statistic represents the character's force of will, and their connection to things outside the physical world. The character's awareness of the spiritual and supernatural, as well as the character's ability to draw upon such energies, is derived from the character's Spiritual Statistic.

In the old system:

  • Essence = Social + Spiritual
  • Resistance is the lower of your Mental or Spiritual

Size

Size is a rough estimate of the character's height and weight. The average character has a Size of 0 (5'1 to 5'5", and about 110lbs to 130lbs). The character's Size can be set somewhere between -6 and +6 Size, though anything higher than +2 or lower than -2 will cost Plot Points. These numbers are not exact, but give a range the character can fall under.

If the character's heigh or weight moves the character to a different Size Category, they character may simply be unhealthy - underweight or obese in comparison to the character's height.

In the old system:

  • Adjusted Max Carry
  • Adjusted Weight for Armor/ Clothing
